JUNIOR JOHNSON
Born: June 28, 1931
Home: Ronda, NC
2010 NASCAR Hall of Fame Inductee
|
With a slow southern draw and a calm demeanor, it would be easy to mistake Junior Johnson for a shoe salesman. However once he got behind the wheel of a stock car this country boy unleashed his speed and winning desire for the whole world to see. His talent behind the wheel resulted from years outrunning the law while running moonshine through the hills of North Carolina. These skills would see Johnson capture 50-wins and 121-Top 5’s during his NASCAR driving career.
However, his greatest success came once his left the driver’s seat and traded it for the owners chair. As a team owner Junior Johnson captured six NASCAR Cup Championships. Racing legends including Cale Yarborough, LeeRoy Yarbrough, Bobby Isaac, Cale Yarborough and Darrell Waltrip were just a few of the drivers that raced for Junior Johnson. Along with being named one of NASCAR’s 50-Greatest drivers, Junior Johnson was inducted into the inaugural class of the NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2010.
